Dodge Shadow wore a sporty and trendy design with the objective of attracting affluent young buyers.
Dodge Shadow was built using P-body platform. The basic engines of the car were available in two versions, including a turbocharged 2.2L and 2.5L with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 3-speed automatic transmission. The basic model had subtle variations every year. The 1991 model was a convertible type that came in a 2 door and 4 door hatchback style. This model was fitted with a 2.2L engine and contained driver side air bags ensuring improved safety. The 1992 Shadow models were fitted with a Mitsubishi built V6 engine. The 1993 and 1994 models were incorporated with certain other advanced features including power windows, cruise control, automatic door locking system, tilt wheel, variable intermittent delay wipers, fog lights, convertible top and a rear defroster.
Inspite of having advanced features, performance of Dodge Shadow was not so inspiring. This is primarily due to its turbo engine that is fuel-efficient and delivers swift acceleration but makes a lot of noise. This problem was solved with the introduction of V6 engine. Dodge Shadow has plush interiors but lacks an overdrive gear due to insufficient 3-speed automatic transmission. However, Dodge Shadow can be considered as a solid compact car that provides good performance at an affordable cost.
