Ford Taurus Review
| Manufactured by Ford Motors in the United States, Ford Taurus is a mid-size front-wheel drive automobile introduced into the market in 1985. Ford Taurus was designed in order to replace Ford LTD, a rear-wheel drive automobile. Taurus was the best-selling car in United States between 1992 and 1996. Till date, five generations of Taurus have been produced by the company, each having its own unique design and exemplary performance. |
The first generation Taurus had a plush, aerodynamic design with composite headlights. The car was powered by a 90 horse power, 2.5L HSC four-cylinder. However, there was another variant that used Vulcan V6 engine with AXOD automatic transmission. The car was loaded with various advanced features including power windows, air conditioning, power seats, electric door locks, cassette stereo and cruise control.
The second generation Ford Taurus was a more luxurious vehicle with exquisite interiors that included electronic automatic climate control option, power sliding moon roof, leather seats, air bags and crystalline headlamps. All the vehicles were powered by 3.0L and 3.8L Vulcan V6 engines.
More changes came in the third and fourth generation Ford Taurus that had an integrated control panel, improved safety measures that included traction control, side curtain air bags and extra frame reinforcing. Also included in the design were multi-reflector headlamps, tail lamps and four-wheel disc brakes. Some of the vehicles of this generation were fitted with an improved DOHC Duratec engine while others had the original Vulcan V6 engine.
The 2008 version of Taurus has been designed with an objective of providing a more distinctive, quieter and safe vehicle. Powered with a 263hp 3.5L cyclone engine, 2008 Taurus has several advanced features including wiper-activated headlamps, tire pressure monitoring system and voice-activated navigation system. The car is fitted with Ford Sync System that controls the mp3 players and Bluetooth-enabled phones. Taurus uses the Safety Canopy System for providing better chest protection. Ford’s patented side protection and cabin enhancement architecture included in Taurus utilizes advanced crash force management techniques that have been designed to channel away impact forces from the passenger cabin during a crash.
